Meet my muse.
She’s 84 years old, has been married 66 years, loves to cook for her husband and likes her vodka on the rocks with a twist of lemon. Meet New York based Sylvia Weinstock, the most sought after cake designer and baker in the world.
I had a cake tasting appointment with Sylvia to choose fillings and cake flavors. I fell in love with Sylvia’s personality. She says what she’s thinking and has no filter. And as much as she works with sugar she doesn’t sugar coat her advice as we learned as she gave one of my bridesmaids marriage advice. We became fast friends and this fabulous woman will be at attending our wedding in July. Had I met her sooner I would’ve had her as a bridesmaid. She’s that fabulous.
I dreamed of a non-traditional cake made to look like the blue and white ceramic tiles you see so often in Italy. I wanted to incorporate lemons which remind me of Italy and white flowers. The white flowers I suggested were white cherry blossoms but she sketched one cake with peonies, tulips, and hydrangeas. I personally love them and think they are appropriate for our wedding in the Amalfi Coast.
This morning I woke up and found these sketches from Sylvia in my email.
